I'm certain you would not need me to find a food spot in Amsterdam, since there are so many of them. However, I want to share my experience about the ones I've been to, for you to know what to expect in terms of quality, prices & diverse information
If you are looking for Breakfast/brunch addresses, check my other article here! Enjoy!
#1 THE FOODHALLEN #Number1OnYourList
Every time friends of mine are visiting here, I mandatory bring them to the Foodhallen! You might have heard of it because it is famous, and yes, there are tourists, but it is a must-go. The concept is simple: You are in huge covered market, with stands proposing food from different origin. From the Dutch Bitterballen, to the Lebanese hummus, via Chinese Dim Sum and wood fire cooked Pizza's.
The pictures below show Greek pitta's, vegetables tempura's and a very sophisticated hot-dog. Those three different stands are particularly yummyyy!
What I really like about the Foodhallen is that everything is made of good quality products, and if you can't agree with your friends on a food spot, this place is perfect because everyone can eat something different. You order and pay, wait for 5-10 minutes, then get your food and go eat with everyone at a table. There is a bar in the middle of the market and a special one for Gin cocktails! If after all of that, you want a sweet dessert, frozen yoghourts and mini pies are waiting for ya!
I would say that it is not the cheapest place, but it stays reasonable. You will pay around 10-15€ for one portion of food + the drink.
In the weekend, the place is often crowded, so you better go during the week or you will need luck to find seats :)
Location: Bellamyplein, 51

This one is the best spot for burgers in the whole city! Lombardo’s is a tiny little restaurant with a maximum of ten seats.
They serve the best quality meat with perfect toasted buns & terrific sauces!
The burgers are quite expensive and served with no fries, but they are totally worth their price! (From 9 to 14€)
You will certainly remember that taste for a long time!
Location: Nieuwe Spiegelstraat, 50

I have been a few times to this Sushi spot because in Amsterdam even more than in Brussels, cheap sushi’s are complicated to find. Ikura is a small restaurant located in DePijp. They propose a large range of sushi, California rolls, maki’s and other appetizers like Edamame, Loempia’s and Saté brochettes.
I usually order different things to share and am always satisfied with the food. For one person to eat plenty enough and have a drink, I would say it costs around 16-17€. It is very reasonable! They are opened every day except Wednesday.
Albert Cuypstraat, 65
#4 VAN WONDEREN STROOPWAFELS #Stroopwafels

In my articles on the 10 must-do in Amsterdam, I’ve told you about the stroopwafels. You can find very cheap fresh ones on the Albert Cuyp market, but if you are near Van Wonderen Stroopwafels, I recommend you those too. They add chocolate, almonds, Oreo or other toppings on the waffles in order to make them less ordinary, and I must say they are very good! Special mention for the nice look of them that allows pretty picture...
Small: 3,95€ - M: 5,95€ (pic) - L: 7,95€
Kalverstraat, 190
#5 THE BUTCHER #FiveGuysStyle
For those who were wondering, there is no Five Guys in Amsterdam. However, the Butcher can totally replace it. It is kind of a high price fast food, with of course better quality products than in a fast food. They propose a large variety of Burgers and some basic sides like Belgian Fries and Sweet potatoes Fries. There is not much more to say about this place, except that it is very good. There are five of them in town, and the one in DePijp area is said to hide a secret bar.. Is that a fact or a rumor? No clue!
Prices:
*Classic cheeseburger* 9.95€
*230g Angus beef burger* 12.45€
* Belgian fries* 3€
*Sweet potatoes fries* 4.50€
Locations:
Nieuwezijds Voorburgwal, 182I (Magna plaza)
Paleisstraat, 14 (Nine street)
Overhoeksplein, 1 (North)
Bellamyplein, 51 (The Foodhallen)
Albert Cuypstraat, 129 (DePijp)
Toasties are very popular in the Netherlands, and like Toastable because they offer more sophisticated toasties, changing the traditional ham and cheese! (Although, ham&cheese toasties are aaaalways good!) We chose: one with pulled pork, cheddar and cashew nuts, the other with brie cheese, jam, walnuts and my friend added spinach. They were very good and big, we got out absolutely full. We still decided to try their carrot cake that was staring at us from the counter, and WoW! We paid 11€ each for the toasties and one slice of carrot cake to share.
Locations: Singel, 441 - Nieuwendijk, 6
#7 ONDER DE OOIEVAAR #BruinCafé
Another must-do from my list is to have a dinner in a Bruin Café. These typical Dutch bars serve good beers and quite simple meals, but always good and for low prices. A large cheeseburger with chips will only cost you 7,50€. The nice thing there is that you have the opportunity to try typical Dutch dishes, like Bitterballen, Chicken Saté and meatball.
The owners are nice and welcoming people, so I see absolutely no reasons not to try that spot!
Utrechtstraat, 119
#8 THE LEBANESE SAJERIA
Located in the middle of Amsterdam's canals, this very small restaurant is perfect for a healthy lunch! They have choices for meat lover, vegeterians and even vegans. Me and my friend chose the most simple formula called Zaatar with halloumi cheese. It was composed of Zaatar (mix of dried wild thyme, sumac and roasted sesame seeds) with halloumi cheese, cucumber, tomatoes and fresh mint on a whole wheat dough. It was really tasty but I think 7,50€ is overpriced. I recommend the address when you're not too hungry because it was quite light :)
Wijde Heisteeg, 1
According to Trip Advisor, this one is the best restaurant to eat burgers in Amsterdam. I must say it makes a good rival for Lombardo’s which I still prefer but definitely a burger spot to try! The Happy Bull is located in West, at the end of VondelPark. It looks a bit American to me because they propose big burgers with milkshakes. Their burgers are very good, and they propose basic sides like potatoes fries with their skin and Sweet Potatoes fries, but also homemade onion rings with BBQ sauce and fried corn on the cob. Special mention for their buns, absolutely delicious.

Prices:
Burgers: 8,95€ - 15,75€
Sides: 3,75€ - 6,25€
Milkshakes: 6,25€ - 9,50€
Location: Hoofddorpweg, 9H

Here is a place where I have been quite a few times, and I was never disappointed. It is a classic European restaurant, with good food and good service. I find it the perfect place to have dinner, especially when the weather is sunny because there is a nice terrace near the canals.
The diner menu proposes varied food, like burgers (15.50€), pasta (+/- 16€), pizze (11.50-14€), and salads (8.50-14.50€).
For lunch the pasta's are replaced by multiple eggs, sandwiches and hot-dog.
The restaurant is accessible from two streets, so no worries if you are not at the address below.
Spuistraat, 320
Located in East, 505 is an Asian spot that my father discovered when visiting me. He‘s my best reference for places to go and things to do, so believe me when I tell you this one is to try. The budget needed is a bit higher than the other Asian restaurant I recommend in this article, but I still want to talk about it because I really ate well there. I would recommend to just order many different things and share, because there are so many to try.
- Suhis & rolls cost between 7 and 9€
- Varied bites like Giyoza, Saté, Prawns tempura, spring rolls cost from 5 to 11€
- Instead of varied bites, you can also order meal, for around 15€ each.
Location: Insulindeweg, 505
I have heard quite a lot about this place since I moved in. Compared with Brussels, much more people in Amsterdam are vegan, so it's not something I am very used to. As a meat lover, I was a bit skeptical about dishes that look like meat but aren't made of it. A friend of mine convinced me to go, and believe me, I was not disappointed. Their burgers are fantastic and they propose original sides, like chickpea fries or waffles fries. I ordered a shawarma burger that really looked non-vegan and the classic burger is also a must try. Overall, it is a bit expensive but I recommend it 100%. Plan 25€/p for drink, dish and sides. (We left the place totally full). They have several locations in town but I advice you to go either near flowermarket (Reguliersdwarsstraat, 57), either in De Pijp (Marie Heinekenplein, 9).
These are said to be the best cookies in Amsterdam, and I must say that their soft dough filled with white chocolate, really convinced me! A friend of mine brought me one while I was studying and I'll definitely go back to check the place and grab another one ;) I cannot say if they are the best, but until now, I haven't found better. Plus, the price is reasonable: 2€ for a middle size cookie. Heisteeg, 4
#14 THE AVOCADO SHOW #AvocadoLovers

There is probably no need anymore to introduce you to this one, since it is very famous and there is one in Brussels as well. However, if you, avocado lover, have never tried it, then put it on the top of your to-do-list. Every meal there, from drinks to dessert, contains avocado. It is overpriced but I find it worth it. I recommend you to share a plate of Nachos as starter because they are particularly tasty. For the main course, there are avocado burgers, avocado salmon poke bowls, toasts, pancakes and many others.
Dip Nachos - S: 6,25€ - L: 9,50€
Main dishes: +/- 15€
Homemade lemonade: +/- 4€
The place is always full, so when arriving you will have to give your name and wait to be texted. The waiting time is usually around 20-45 minutes. There are bars around where you can have a drink while waiting. Don't plan to go in the evening, because the opening hours are from 9am to 5pm.
Daniël Stalpertstraat, 61
I have to admit I am torn about this place. The service is really not great and paying 3€ for a beer in a can was a bit insulting. However, the food is absolutely delicious, so I would recommend you to go anyway. The food is cheap, there is a large range of choices and we ate very well.
l Starters: Rolls, Dumpling, Spareribs l 3,50-7€
l Noodles with chicken/beef/pork l 10€
l Crispy/roasted pork plate l 12,50€
Address: Warmoesstraat, 17

Gusto is an excellent Italian restaurant, with among the nicest waiters I have had.
When I went there, we ordered only pasta, without knowing it is considered as starter, so the quantities were a bit short. However, I really advice you to try them before the main course. Excellent food, wine, and like I said, excellent service! The antipasti cost from 6€ to 12€, the pasta around 15€ and the main courses 20-25€. They also propose desserts which I didn't try but heard only good things about! (5-10€).
Herenstraat, 28
If you are looking for a new Japanese and not-too-overpriced restaurant, this one is the one. It is very small, with no more than three tables, but it is owned by a Japanese family making it welcoming. The food is not extraordinary but good!
Location: Frans Halsstraat, 38
#18 BASSERIE DE JOFFERS #AllDaySpot
Whether you want a breakfast, a lunch, or a dinner, this place can serve you! De Joffers is a place I know because a friend of mine used to work there. The food there is classic, but always very good and they have a nice terrace. In my opinion, this spot should be kept for a lazy Sunday lunch :)
On their breakfast menu from 8am to 12am: Typical Dutch breakfast (€12,75), Blueberries pancakes (€8,50), banana cake (€4,50), Detox juice (€5,50), ...
On the lunch cart, from 12am to 5pm: Complete lunch combo (€12,50), Hamburgers (€12,50), Club Sandwich (€10,50), ...
For dinner 5.30-9pm: Entrecôte (€21,50), Italian Penne (€14,50), Coq au vin (€21,50€)
Willems Parkweg, 163

Vapiano is a worldwide chain that proposes Italian food through a concept a bit different than classic restaurants. People are cooking in front of you, so you stand in the queue and make your order right the way. Pastas are fresh and pizzas very good. What I like about this place is that it is a practical system but it doesn’t make the food less good. You scan everything you order with a magnetic card and pay at the end of your visit.
A plate of pasta costs from 7,50 to 13€, and a pizza costs from 6,90€ to 14€.
You can also eat lasagna (8,90€) and risotto(8-10€).
Amstelstraat 2-4
Smakelijk eten!
